SQL Developer Shows NullPointerException On MacOS During Startup Of Swing App With DisplayLink Dock (Doc ID 2621987.1)

This is issue on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) running on MacOS Mojave 10.14.3 with DisplayLink Driver 5.1 for the Dell Dock D6000.


Symptoms

When you connect the MacBook to the dock and close the lid, then you cannot start any Java Swing based application using JDK8 or JDK11 or JDK12. However, it works when you use JDK7.

Affected applications are Oracle SQL Developer 18.4, jvisualvm or jconsole.

Changes

Using a single external monitor with 1920x1200 resolution via a DisplayPort Adapter.
