Change in Managed Server State Collection From WLS 11g to 12c (Doc ID 2645754.1)

Last updated on MARCH 27, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 12.2.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In WLS 12c the state of the Managed Server upon restart goes from RUNNING to SHUTDOWN to RUNNING.
In WLS 11g the state was seen to change from RUNNING to STARTING to RUNNING.
It is expected that the same state would be displayed in the console for 12c that was seen in 11g.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. In the Admin Console, restart a Managed Server.
2. See the state of the server changes from RUNNING to SHUTDOWN to RUNNING.
3. Do the same in 11g and see the state changes from RUNNING to STARTING to RUNNING.

Changes

The gathering of Managed Server state was changed due to performance enhancements.

For each server without a Server Runtime, we fetch the bulk server state from Node Manager rather than querying the state using ServerLifecycleRuntimeMBean.
In a test domain of 1500 servers, with dozens associated with each machine, the response time for the server table improved from fourteen minutes to under one.
