OAM 12c Authentication is Very Slow When Users are Members of More Than 90 Groups (Doc ID 2649471.1)

Symptoms

Login times for users that are members of many LDAP groups (500+ groups) is very slow. The application often times out before loading but if it does load successfully then it takes several minutes to complete the login process. The OAM diagnostic logs may show errors similar to the below but these errors are not always thrown.

Changes

This problem is generally noticed when upgrading from OAM 11g to OAM 12c. The upgrade process is not the culprit though and the problem is also seen with a fresh OAM 12c installation as well.
