"404 Not Found" is Still Returned after File is Created in Mapped Virtual Directory (Doc ID 2663811.1)

Symptoms

404 Not Found is still returned after file is created in mapped virtual directory.
Reports|files are saved on shared storage.
WebLogic is serving those reports|files by using <virtual-directory-mapping> in weblogic.xml.
The user sometimes request the file before it is there, resulting in a correct 404.
After putting the report/file in the shared storage, a user requests the file again but an incorrect 404 error is returned, without even looking at the disk to see if it is there.
