How to Upgrade / Migrate an Application to the Universal Theme (Doc ID 2688778.1)

Last updated on JUNE 23, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Database Service - Version N/A and later
APEX Application Development - Version NA and later
Oracle Application Express (APEX) - Version 5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This document is intended for APEX developers for situations where the browser does not display application features properly for specific themes.

Starting with Application Express (APEX) version 5.0, the Universal Theme (UT) was introduced. While the Legacy themes are still supported, Universal Theme is the primary theme. With future releases of Application Express you will be be able to readily upgrade the Universal Theme to take advantages of the new functionality provided.

If applications are already using the Universal theme, it may be necessary to migrate the UT for the current version if the application is displaying anomalies related to the application display. Internet Explorer (IE) appears to be particularly prone to browser display issues.

This document provides information on migrating to the Universal Theme, as well as upgrading the Universal theme after the APEX upgrade. According to the APEX installation guide > 2.3.7 About Upgrading Existing Applications. It is not required to upgrade the Universal Theme after every APEX upgrade, but it is desirable to upgrade the Universal Theme periodically.
