Symptoms

After upgrading Oracle Database from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2, a java stored procedure (using KPRB) reports “java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00904”.

When the java program used in the Java Stored Procedure was tested on the OS shell / command-prompt, with JDK 6 + JDBC Thin Driver 12.1.0.2.0 (ojdbc6.jar), the issue still reproduced.

On applying JDBC <patch 20692348> to JDBC Thin Driver 12.1.0.2.0 (ojdbc6.jar), the issue did not reproduce in the standalone java program running on OS shell / command-prompt.
