Using Deployment Manager (DM) to export metadata fails with: Export Failed

Deployment Manager on OIM releases up to are run as an applet.

To debug issues related to applets one need to  enable the Java Console on the machine where the browser to access OIM is launched.

To enable the java console please follow steps in Doc ID 2698254.1: HowTo Enable the Java Console to Debug Issues with Applets like the Deployment Manager (DM)?

Once the Java Console is enabled we will see what is causing the error:

The cause of the error is: access denied ("" "($PATH_TO_FILE/$FILE_NAME)" "write")

The error is clear, the applet where the DM is running can not save files due to a file permission issue.

First thing to check is that the user running the browser has access to the directory where he/she is trying to export the file.

[$HOST ~]$ ls -ld $DIRECORY

drwxrwxrwx 2 xxxx xxxx 4096 Aug  5 14:59 $DIRECTORY

In this case the user did have write/read permissions on that directory so that was not the issue.

The second thing to check are the grants defined on the java.policy of the JRE on the host running the browser used to load the Applet.

Checking the grants as seen below confirms that the correct grants are present.
