Goal

How to perform an upgrade installation of the ESSO Logon Manager client?

When a new version of the ESSO Logon Manager Client is installed as an upgrade on top of an existing version, the upgrade process will uninstall the existing version before installing the new version. This becomes problematic because if the previous version was installed with a custom MSI package with the Global Agent Settings for Logon Manager, those settings will be removed when the existing version is uninstalled. If the new version is then installed with the out-of-the-box base MSI provided by Oracle, then it will only include the default configuration settings thus resulting in some loss of expected functionality that was in the previous version.

Example:

Previous version was installed with a custom MSI that included the Smartcard Authenticator so users can authenticate with a smartcard. The existing version of Logon Manager is then upgraded using a base MSI provided by Oracle that does not include the Smartcard authenticator. As a result, the smartcard functionality will no longer work after the upgrade to the new version.
