Comment Functionality is Broken for Task Forms Autogenerated from "Human Task > Complete Task without Payload". ERROR: NPE in {commentBean.addComment} (Doc ID 2743611.1)

Symptoms

For SOA 12.2.1.3.x and 12.2.1.4.x, custom task flows autogenerated from "Human Task > Complete Task without Payload", comments cannot be entered in the UI.

After the comment is entered and the "Post Comment" button is clicked, the following error is displayed:

An unresolvable error has occured. Please contact your administrator for more information.

When the issue occurs, the log file shows:
