Symptoms

Installing OPatch patch 28186730 failed with error

install[TimeStamp].log


Enabling opatch debug options did not yield additional info:
 java -jar opatch_generic.jar -silent oracle_home=<ORACLE_HOME_LOCATION> -debug -logLevel finest

Collected additional debug information using strace Linux OS utility:
 strace -f -o /tmp/strace.out  java -jar opatch_generic.jar -silent oracle_home=<ORACLE_HOME_LOCATION>
