HEAP Memory Usage Increases Over Time (Doc ID 2774468.1)

Last updated on JULY 10, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Enterprise Data Quality - Version 12.2.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On Oracle Enterprise Data Quality (EDQ) an increase in the HEAP memory usage is observed as the system has been running for some time.

After an application restart, the HEAP usage is at around 25% of its allocated memory. Over time, usually 2 weeks, HEAP usage is constantly growing -reaching around 80% when problems start to occur.

At this point the application server slows down significantly, users are still able to login but response from the application is very poor.
The only way to release the memory from HEAP is to restart the application server. If the application server is not restarted at this point, Tomcat will stop by itself within the next 24 hours.
