GoldenGate Big Data – Kafkaconnect Handler - Inconsistent Key Serialization - How to fix this? (Doc ID 2787539.1)

Goal

We are using Oracle GoldenGate for Big Data 19.1.0.0.8 on Solaris to perform an initial load to Kafka via the kafkaconnect handler.
We are seeing what look like control characters in the keys of the messages. The keys seem to be serialized as Avro instead of String.

The Key Serialization method is inconsistent; some topics have keys as strings which are fine, but other topics have the data coming in what seems like avro.
