Generic Error During Smart Import "ODI-14070: Import failed. The parent object was not found" (Doc ID 2802934.1)

Symptoms

Using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 12c, the smart import or work repository import sometimes fails with a generic error.

This can occur when the destination repository has a different internal ID of a parent object than what is in source. The error itself does not include the object names or GUID from the export file which would help identify which object causes the import to fail.
