Is is possible for a legacy JDBC/thin application that is stuck with Java 6 to connect using TLS 1.2 ?

There might be a situation where the database has been upgraded and now requires the client to use TLS 1.2.

Likewise it may not be possible or easy to migrate the application configuration to a newer Java version
