Intermittent Waits Noticed on Socket Connection to External LDAP Server During Authentication (Doc ID 2829526.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 16, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 12.2.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A WebLogic instance got stuck while starting up. Also, login attempts and execution of application jobs got impacted by intermittent waits of several minutes.

To understand what component is getting stuck a set of thread dumps were provided, finding the following thread as main suspect:

That's WLS trying to authenticate a user via LDAP, but it seems it got stuck while trying to connect to the LDAP server.

In the <DOMAIN>/config/config.xml file, 2 authentication providers were configured, involving an external LDAP, and the embeddedLDAP, in that order, both configured with the control flag to SUFFICIENT.

Enabling ATN debug flags for the AdminServer, it was determined the issue was more related to the external LDAP servers, when LDAP referrals was followed.
