SQL*Plus Hangs on Inserting Specific Characters on Multibyte Characterset Settings. (Doc ID 2863153.1)

Last updated on APRIL 18, 2022

Applies to:

SQL*Plus - Version 19.3 and later
Generic Linux

This problem seems to be specific to multi-byte character sets.
If you set client NLS_LANG variable with multibyte characters (AL32UTF8, JA16SJIS, for example), the program hangs when processing inserts of certain characters.

This statement itself is expected to return error ORA-01756 because of the incorrect handling of single quotes.
However, it actually hangs and does not return any errors.

There is more than one character that can cause a hang, but not all multibyte characters either. As far as we can currently ascertain, the problem is reproduced when double-byte numbers are included.
