Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Forms - Version to [Release to 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

On a client machine a java application is launched from a browser (e.g. Netscape / IE) using one version of Oracle Jinitiator / Sun JRE. Then in the same browser session an attempt is made to open up another java application (e.g. Oracle Forms / Oracle Discoverer) this time using a different version of Oracle Jinitiator / Sun JRE.  The different version of Oracle Jinitiator / Sun JRE fails to initialize causing a fatal error in the browser and/or the browser to crash. For example, the following errors maybe seen:

"JInitiator 1.3 Fatal Error - Attachment to a running Virtual Machine Failed"

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!

Program Files: C\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"

Example scenarios in which the problem can occur:

Scenario A:

Scenario B:

Scenario C:

The problem does NOT reproduce with IE browser, when launching the first java application using IE native JVM, followed by the 2nd application using Oracle Jinitiator.
