Exalogic Physical: Typo in Kernel Parameter Results in Lower Performance (Doc ID 2898134.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 23, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 2.0.6.4.200714 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

Lower performance is observed in the following Physical Linux environments:

- EECS 2.0.6.4.x environments that are upgraded to Jul 2020 PSU (2.0.6.4.200714) and higher
- EECS 2.0.6.3.x environments that are upgraded to Oct 2021 PSU (2.0.6.4.211019) and higher

Oct 2021 PSU upgrades Oracle Linux 6 Physical compute nodes from 2.0.6.3.x (2.0.6.3 codeline running UEK2) to 2.0.6.4.21109 (2.0.6.4 codeline running UEK4).

A typo in one of the kernel parameters in the grub configuration file results in lower performance following this kernel upgrade.

A similar typo in the kernel parameter in the grub configuration file on Oracle Linux 7 Physical compute nodes running Jul 2020 PSU or higher also results in lower performance compared to earlier PSU releases.

The degree of impact to performance depends on the workload.

NOTE: This issue is not encountered on Exalogic racks running Virtual releases.

Changes

- Jul 2020 PSU (2.0.6.4.200714) or higher was applied to the Exalogic rack running EECS 2.0.6.4.x

- Oct 2021 PSU (2.0.6.4.211019) or higher was applied to the Exalogic rack running EECS 2.0.6.3.x
