Symptoms

Unable to update an existing portlet application deployment with a new EAR file.
The original application was deployed using JDeveloper.
The new update is failing when attempting to deploy using the WLS console with the following error:

ERROR

Errors were encountered while uploading the file <APPLICATION_DEPLOYMENT_FILE>.ear
[DOMAIN_HOME]/servers/AdminServer/upload/adminReports.ear/app/<APPLICATION_DEPLOYMENT_FILE>.ear (Not a directory)

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Starting in WebCenter Portal 12.2.1.3 deploy a Portlet Producer Application as .ear file.

  2. Deploy to Portlet Producer Application .ear file to the WC_Portlet managed server using the WLS Console.
When deploying upload the application ear file from your local machine (not the machine where the domain is running).

  3. Upgrade to WebCenter Portal 12.2.1.4.

  4. Upgrade the Portlet Producer Application using JDeveloper 12.2.1.4.

  5. Deploy the upgraded Portlet Producer Application as .ear file.

  6. Try redeploying the Portlet Producer Application .ear file to the WC_Portlet managed server using the WLS Console.
When deploying upload the application ear file from your local machine (not the machine where the domain is running).

    The following error displays:

Errors were encountered while uploading the file <APPLICATION_DEPLOYMENT_FILE>.ear
    [DOMAIN_HOME]/servers/AdminServer/upload/adminReports.ear/app/<APPLICATION_DEPLOYMENT_FILE>.ear (Not a directory)
