How To Create New Subclasses In Relational Model? (Doc ID 3053090.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 24, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler - Version 23.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

If a subclass is created in the logical model and then the changes are pushed to the relational model, the entities appear under the Arc as subclasses and this relationship is then explicit.
However, there seems to be no way to create an additional subclass entity and place it under an existing Arc.
Likewise, there is no way to set up a totally new class/subclass hierarchy within the relational model. It is possible to create 1-to-1 relationships which, from an implementation standpoint, are equivalent but, they can't be added to display as an arc. This is really needed as it makes it explicit that one entity is a subclass of another.

Is there anyway to do this?
