OUD Replication Broken with Error: "Replication is connected to replication server, but has a different generation id" and "This may be only temporary or requires a full resynchronization"

Symptoms
OUD replication fails.
In logs getting
[22/Oct/2024:10:49:47 +0200] category=SYNC severity=NOTICE msgID=15138912 msg=Replication is connected to replication server, but has a different generation id for domain [DOMAIN_DN] than replication server [HOSTNAME]/[IP]:[REPLICATION_PORT] - local data generation is NNNNNN - replication server data generation is NN - This may be only temporary or requires a full resynchronization
When running the OUD status command directories have " Data Sources" for "Base DN" that are replicated which show a different number of entries.
This replication is between OUD instances where there is no replication gateway in the architecture.
Changes
- Certificates for replication on one node was expired and at that time the connectivity between replication servers was lost.
- Replication server connectivity was restored using Doc ID:1619734.1
