OUD 12c: High CPU Related To DIP Provisioning Errors In The OUD Debug Log "The operation attempted to assign a zero-length value to an attribute with the directory string syntax" (Result=21) (Doc ID 3063164.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 13, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Unified Directory - Version 12.2.1.4.241003 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

High CPU utilization in OUD and repeated DIP provisioning errors identified in the OUD debug and access log files.

When DIP is running the CPU on the server spikes to around 98% and everything gets really slow. If the DIP services are stopped and the OUD instance is restarted, then the CPU decreases to less than 1%. DIP is still down after the restart. As soon as the DIP server is restarted, the CPU spikes.

The following errors have been observed in the OUD debug and access log files:

OUD Debug Log:

Confirmed the DIP server is running via the status icon in Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control 12c.

Our setup uses passthrough authentication so users are able to login to EBS using their Active Directory user. Everything on the EBS side works, just slow when opening a form for the first time and fetching data. Once the form is open any data searches are normal speed. The issue is isolated to the initial opening of a form and then the first authentication request. Once the initial authentication is completed, the performance returns to a normal state.
