Internal Server Error when Trying to Access Portal (Doc ID 313168.1)

Symptoms

You get Internal Server Error when trying to access any Portal page.

Sometimes you also get Internal Server Error when accessing the PPE test page:

http://<HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/portal/page

Sometimes the same works fine.

When checking the status of OC4J_Portal using dcmctl getState -v sometimes it shows up sometimes down, sometimes partially up.

There are no errors in the Portal's application.log.

The opmn/logs/OC4J_Portal.default_island.1 file shows the following error:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread
at java.lang.Thread.start(Native Method)
at oracle.webdb.page.ContentDispatcher$FetchGroup.createFetcher(Unknown Source)
at oracle.webdb.page.ContentDispatcher$FetchGroup.start(Unknown Source)
at oracle.webdb.page.ContentDispatcher.run(Unknown Source)
Warning: Error reading transaction-log file (/<ORACLE_HOME>/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/persistence/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/transaction.state) for recovery: premature end of file
Forced or abrupt (crash etc) server shutdown detected, starting recovery process...
