<Note 343563.1> Deprecated Features in Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2)
Important:
- The first phase of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 was version 10.1.2.0.0 and 10.1.2.0.1. It is recommended to obtain and install version 10.1.2.0.2 to obtain the full release components and features. If 10.1.2.0.0 or 10.1.2.0.1 are already installed, its recommended to install the latest Application Server Patch Set to update the installed components. The Patchset will not allow expansion or add any new features available only in 10.1.2.0.2. The Upgrade Guide, Chapter 1 has more information on this.
- Release 3 (10.1.3) is not an upgrade from Release 2 (10.1.2). It is a separate release that has upgraded J2EE components, and could be implemented as separate Mid-Tier within a 10.1.2-based topology. See "Getting Started" within <Note:397022.1> for more details.
Certification/Compatibility Information
Important:
The following document now provides all methods of retrieving certification and compatibility information, including a cumulative list of My Oracle Support documents:

The remainder of this document outlines all the patches and alerts that you should be applying after installation, depending on the what version or patches you may already have installed.
- Table 1 provides the certified Database/Client updates. It is necessary to apply a Database Patch Set to all of your Oracle Application Server homes as a pre-requisite to a Patch or Patchset, unless you are applying the 10.1.2.3 Patchset, then only an installed Oracle Database Server 10.1 home.
- Table 2 is listing Oracle Application Server Patch Sets.
- Table 3 is a listing of Oracle Application Server component-based updates
- After the patchset tables the remainder of this document provides more available updates, such as OPatch utility, Critical Patch Updates, and Daylight Savings Time updates.
Table 1: Oracle Database Patchsets for an Oracle Application Server home
Oracle Database Server/Client Patchsets are usually applied as a pre-requisite to an Oracle Application Server patch. It is necessary to apply the same Database Patchset in all homes, (including Standalones or Mid-Tiers), in order to obtain the Server/Client changes within the Oracle home. The following table lists the Database Patchsets applicable and certified to Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.x), and any additional information pertaining to Oracle Application Server homes.
The following lists the database server/client component version installed from Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) media:

Patch Release | Action Needed | More Information |
Oracle Database Server/Client (10.1.0.5.0) | <Patch:4505133> | For step-by-step instructions to be on latest version, see the following which includes the information herein: <Note 415222.1> Steps to Maintain Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
Important:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.x) Identity Management, Mid-Tier and Standalone homes will have the 10.1.0.5.0 component automatically updated when applying the AS 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3 Patchset in Table 2. Therefore, the DB 10.1.0.5 PatchSet (Patch 4505133) is only required on AS 10.1.2.x homes where a 10.1 Database Server is installed. (See the 10.1.2.x PatchSet readme) See Also: <Note 359362.1> Known Issues With DB 10.1.0.5 Patchset to AS 10.1.2 homes Windows Only: After the initial Oracle Database 10.1.0.5.0 Patchset is applied to an Infrastructure or middle-tier, (via DB Patchset or AS Patchset in middle-tier-homes), there may be a requirement to update the installed 10.1.0.5.0 components. On Windows, this is a cumulative patch referred to as '10.1.0.5 Patch x'. Note that these will conflict with Critical Patch Updates (CPU). You should always apply the latest CPU, which will include the previous '10.1.0.5 Patch x' fixes. Ignore any OPatch "conflict" message in this case. Oracle Database Server/Client (10.1.0.4.2) | <Note:334638.1> | (Superseded by 10.1.0.5 Patchset for AS 10.1.2.0.2 and 10.1.2.1) Oracle Application Server 10g version 10.1.2.0.2 is provided with a Database/Client version 10.1.0.4.2. However, this patch is required to be applied on all previous installations of Oracle Database Server 10g (10.1.x), before running a 10.1.2.0.2 Metadata Repository Creation Assistant (MRCA) against a remote Database. On all other AS 10.1.2.0.0/10.1.2.0.1 homes, it is recommended to only apply the DB 10.1.0.4.0 patchset, unless its the AS 10.1.2.1 Patchset requirement |
Oracle Database Server/Client (10.1.0.4.0) | <Patch:4163362> | (Superseded by 10.1.0.5 Patchset for AS 10.1.2.1) <Note 263719.1> Oracle 10g Release 1 (10.1) Support Status and Alerts You should apply the Oracle Database Server/Client 10.1.0.4.0 Patchset to all Oracle Application Server 10g version 10.1.2.0.0/10.1.2.0.1 homes, with these additional requirements

<Patch:4960210> | Superseded by 10.1.2.3 Patch Set Important: The 10.1.0.5.0 Database client is automatically installed on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.x instances that do not actually contain the Oracle Database. If an Oracle Database 10.1.x is used for the Metadata Repository, its a requirement to first install the 10.1.0.5.0 Patchset (Patch 4505133) to the DB 10.1.x instance.

As per AS 10.1.2.2 Readme, if you are using Oracle Web Cache with SSL configured, you should download and apply <Patch 4700543> after installing OracleAS 10g Release 2 Patch Set 2 on UNIX platforms. On Windows, this is fixed within <Patch 5057606> (10.1.0.5.2). If applying any Critical Patch Updates for AS 10.1.2.2, you will also obtain this fix, and not require Patch 5057606. You will need to rollback Patch 5057606 before applying a CPU.
|
Oracle AS 10g Patchset 1 (10.1.2.1) | <Patch:4908436> | Superseded by 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3 Patchset Oracle AS 10g 10.1.2.1.0 Patchset should be applied only on 10.1.2.0.0 or 10.1.2.0.1 Oracle Homes, which will bring them on par with 10.1.2.0.2 bug fixes. However, the patchset will not add any new functionality that 10.1.2.0.2 contains. The Database Patchset 10.1.0.4.2 is a minimal requirement on Metadata Repository homes before applying 10.1.2.1 Patchset, and is included with the patch download. The "Software Update" includes 10.1.0.4.2 updates on all other home types. If Database Patchset 10.1.0.5 (<Patch:4505133>) is available on your platform, it should be applied to all homes before the AS 10.1.2.1 Patchset, (instead of 10.1.0.4.2). See the Patch Set Notes for more information. Review the following before installing <Patch:4908436>: <Note 356738.1> Fixed Bugs List: Oracle Application Server 10g Patch Set 1 (10.1.2.1.0) <Note 359591.1> OracleAS 10g Patchset 1 (10.1.2.1) Post-Release Known Issues <Note 339042.1> Performing Backup and Recovery Operations From AS Control After 10.1.2.1 Patchset If the 10.1.2.1 Patchset has already been applied, the Database Patchset 10.1.0.5.0 should then be applied to all homes, as many future patching may require this update, such as the Critical Patch Updates. OPatch Utility to Apply Patches
OPatch is a required patching utility for all one-off patches to be applied on a base install or after a Patch Set. The latest OPatch Utility should be downloaded as before applying any patch that is applied using OPatch. This includes the Critical Patch Updates.
<Patch 6880880> is used to deliver the latest OPatch Utility. When downloading, choose your actual platform in use and the correct OPatch version for your Oracle home. For Oracle Application Server 10g, select the version as "10.1.0.0.0" for your specific version. Do not use OPatch 10.2 for Oracle Application Server versions unless a 10.2 OUI (installer) was used to install Application Server components. Before using OPatch utility, you should verify what version is installed with "opatch version" command. Note that the 10.1.0.0.0 download is used to deliver an actual 1.0.0.0.xx version level. After downloading, it should be simply extracted into the Oracle home over the old version. Then, check the "opatch version" again, and compare with the version listed in the readme file.
More OPatch Related Information
If using Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2, <Patch 5042134> is required before any Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 patch with OPatch. Without this, the following My Oracle Support document details the issue which will occur:
<Note 361993.1> Makefile Fails to Apply Any One-Off Patch on AS 10g Version 10.1.2.0.2
Important: <Patch 5488476> now supersedes Patch 5042134, and contains other important Forms fixes. If Applying the AS 10.1.2.2 Patch Set, these fixes are included or not required.
Linux 64
On Linux x86-64 (AMD64/EM64T), please apply <Patch 5852265> instead of Patch 5488476, as changes were required to be compatible with this OS.
After applying Oracle Application Server 10g Patch Set 2 (10.1.2.2), any patch applied with OPatch may fail due to an improper platform verification. Obtain <Patch 5861907> to ensure this does not occur Operating Systems Except Windows and SPARC. Additionally, the platform verification can occur for other reasons, and depends on the actual one-off patch being applied. The following two documents are important to review, enabling an understanding of the OPatch platform verification:
<Note 413788.1> Applying a One-Off Patch On All Operating Systems Except Windows and SPARC
<Note 337288.1> OPatch Fails to Detect Operating System Appropriately

<Note 1290974.1> ALERT: Premier Support Ends Dec 31 2011 for Oracle Fusion Middleware 10g 10.1.2 & 10.1.4
It is recommended to upgrade to Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) before the End of Premier Support in order to continue a level of support desired. After Premier Support period ends, error correction support will no longer be provided for this release.
Oracle Database Server Desupport
Desupport has been replaced by the Lifetime Support Policy with an important "End of Premier Support" date and the Error Correction Policy. Below is information on various Oracle Database Server version you may be using with Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2).
below is information about each Oracle Database Server version you may have in use. If performing this upgrade with a plan to upgrade to Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, see the following documentation:

Oracle Database Server 9.2:
As per the Lifetime Support Policy, Oracle Database Server version 9.2 went to Extended Support status. Customers using a remote Oracle Database Server 9.2 for the Metadata Repository will be required to purchase Extended Support or upgrade to a newer Oracle Database Server version. Refer to the Oracle Database Server Upgrade Guide for detailed instructions.
At this time, there are no additional requirements specific to the Metadata Repository when upgrading from Oracle Database Server version 9.2 to 10.2. If Oracle Database Server 10.1 or 11g is desired, see below.
Oracle Database Server 10.1:
As per the Lifetime Support Policy, Oracle Database Server version 10.1 went to Extended Support status. There are two situations here:
Customers using a separate Oracle Database Server 10.1 installed by Database 10.1 media will be required to purchase Extended Support or upgrade to a newer Oracle Database Server version..
- Oracle Database Server 10.1 installed by Database 10.1 media
- Oracle Database Server 10.1 installed by Application Server 10.1.2 media
Customers using a co-located or distributed Infrastructure with Oracle Database Server 10.1 installed by Application Server 10.1.2 media will NOT be required to purchase Extended Support. Support will be provided as it applies to the Application Server requirements. Note this means that new bugs may not be fixed for the Database Server, though the client/networking side may have new fixes made available until the End of Premier Support for the Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 release. For this reason, it is recommended to upgrade to a newer Oracle Database Server version.
