Symptoms
Stopping the instance's components fails with the following error:
$opmnctl stopall
opmnctl: stopping opmn and all managed processes...

opmnctl: graceful stop of processes failed, trying forceful shutdown...
One of the OC4J instances failed to respond on a timely manner to the stop command and Oracle Process monitoring and Notification services (OPMN) issued a shutdown force command to terminate the instance.
