OID Hangs Temporarily In Distributed Architecture: ORA-12152 In oidldapd Log

Symptoms
10gAS Identity Management (IM) only has been installed into an existing database on a different server.
There is a firewall between the IM and database servers.
Once a day the oidldapd process stops responding. OID seems to restart the process and functionality is restored after about 20 minutes.
Errors in the <IM-home>/ldap/log/oidldapd01s<PID>.log:
