Symptoms

A java application querying strings from Oracle Database Server displays distinct non printable characters like Privacy Message (PM) as "¿" which is \ufffd, if the database characterset is one of the ISO 8859-x charactersets like WE8ISO8859P15 except WE8ISO8859P1.
