Chapter 7 Reconfiguring Application Server Instances
7.5 Configuring J2EE and Web Cache to Use Infrastructure Services
The procedure cannot be applied to OracleAS middle tier types which are, by default, associated with an OracleAS 10g Rel 2 Infrastructure at install time e.g
* Oracle Application Server 10gR2 BI & Forms
* Oracle Application Server 10gR2 Portal & Wireless
* Oracle Application Server 10gR2 J2EE and Web Cache
Overall the bulletin is intended to complement the advice given in
Oracle Application Server Administrator's Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
Chapter 9 Changing Infrastructure Services
9.5 Changing the Metadata Repository Used by a Middle-Tier Instance
Finally note:
1. The article does not give advice about how to move or migrate specific applications stored in the product repository, like Discoverer applications, to the new Farm.
2. You cannot associate an OracleAS middle tier instance with a Database-Based Farm that is based on an earlier product version i.e You cannot associate a 9.0.4 middle tier with 10.1.2 Infrastructure.
Scope
The article is intended for OracleAS administrators, consultants or support engineers who already have reasonable experience of working with OracleAS 10g Rel 2. Before working through the steps in this bulletin, the reader should already be familiar with the concepts of an OracleAS Farm, DCM / Metadata Repository and also know what is required to take full cold filesystem backups of OracleAS instances.
