How to Change the Image Prefix After Install Time

Goal
Many a times the question is asked if after installation of Application Express the image prefix (eg. /i/ ) can be altered so a new image prefix (eg. /appA_images/ ) can be used. Of course, the simplest, yet not the most convenient way would be to deinstall and reinstall with the new image prefix name. However, this is quite laborious as all imported applications have to be re-imported.
The following steps should achieve this without doing a reinstall.
For versions 3.0 and above, a script has been provided for resetting the image prefix. See <Note 430837.1> How To Reset The Image Prefix After Installation Of APEX.
