Install of OracleAS Mid Tier Fails With "Unable to validate Identity Management Realm" Even Though ldapbind Works Fine (Doc ID 391672.1)

Symptoms

The OracleAS Infrastructure (Metadata Repository and Identity Management) has been installed successfully and is up and running.

An install of an OracleAS middle tier, however, fails because the installer does not accept the OID connection details entered in the "Register with Oracle Internet Directory" screen.

The error in the installActions.log is:

 

Changes

The default JDK referenced by the Installer has been changed (i.e by editing the oraparam.ini and changing the value for jre-location)

AND / OR

The Oracle Internet Directory has been configured for SSL.
