OC4J Process Crashes Periodically Using JDK 1.5.0 In Server Mode

This problem can occur on any platform.
Symptoms
Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 is running applications that are simple J2EE web applications built using JDeveloper 1013 ADF i.e. servlet and jsps.
The applications consist of web pages that use ADF Business Components to query, and perform CRUD operations on the db. There are no EJBs, no JTA no JMS.
A crash occurs every 2-3 hours and this results in session loss and users have to login again
The ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/opmn.log file shows errors similar to these,
