Portal Setup with Virtual Host: All URLs in the Portal Pages are Pointing to the First Virtual Host Accessed from the Browser until Web Cache is Restarted (Doc ID 397731.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 15, 2019

Applies to:

Portal - Version 9.0.4 to 10.1.4.2 [Release 10g to 10gR2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a configuration of Portal with Virtual Hosts all URLs in the portal pages are pointing to the
first virtual host accessed from the browser until the Web Cache is restarted or the Web Cache is cleaned.

For example, if you have 2 virtual hosts for Portal:

http://<HOSTNAME1>/pls/portal

http://<HOSTNAME2>/pls/portal

If you access first http://<HOSTNAME1/pls/portal from your browser everything will work fine for that virtual host. If you later access http://<HOSTNAME2>/pls/portal then the first redirect will work fine. But all URLs in the portal pages will redirect back to http://<HOSTNAME1>. In this case http://<HOSTNAME1>/pls/portal will always work fine as this was the first virtual host that was accessed after restarting Web Cache.

If in the other hand, if after restarting Web Cache you first access http://<HOSTNAME2>/pls/portal everything will work fine for that virtual host. If you later access http://<HOSTNAME1>/pls/portal then the first redirect will work fine. But all URLs in the portal pages will redirect now back to http://<HOSTNAME2>.
