Last updated on JANUARY 09, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version 10.1.3.1.0 and later

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (using OC4J) offers the option of using multicast for dynamic discovery of cluster nodes and for session replication. Multicast is also an option for cluster communication for Weblogic Server and therefore for Fusion Middleware 11g and newer configurations. In the case that any of these functions are not working, it is useful to be able to troubleshoot whether multicast is fully functional on the network. This document offers a sample java program to test multicast operations. Note that the tests detailed in this note are essentially independent of the Oracle product being used and could be used to troubleshoot any product where multicast is used.
