Symptoms

When running an application built in JDeveloper 10.1.3 using ADF and deployed on the Application Server 10g release 3 the server often crashes suddenly .
OC4J log file shows a Java VM crash and refers to a hs_err_pidXXXX.log file.
That file describes a crash of the Java Virtual Machine as the following:
#
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6da2986e, pid=3924, tid=2548
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.5.0_05-b05 mixed mode)
# Problematic frame:
# V [jvm.dll+0x1e986e]
#
(...)
Current CompileTask:
opto:723 oracle.sql.NUMBER.toBytes(Ljava/lang/String;I)[B (1034 bytes)
(...)
The problem occurs often, but is not reproducible at will.

Adding the java directive
-XX:CompileCommand=exclude,oracle\sql\NUMBER,toBytes
does not prevent the crash.
