JDeveloper ships with a version of the Oracle OC4J Container; this container is often referenced as the Embedded OC4J Container. The purpose of this container is to act as runtime environment for testing applications within JDeveloper.
It is not intended to act as a Standalone OC4J Container, ie to be started outside of the JDeveloper environment.

The purpose of this note is to clarify why the Embedded OC4J should not be used as a Standalone OC4J Container.
