Problems when Consulting a Package From ODI Metadata Navigator (Doc ID 424197.1)

Symptoms

The following messages may be signaled when consulting Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Packages from Metadata Navigator:

javax.servlet.ServletException: Servlet execution threw an exception
...

root cause:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:115)
at java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(GraphicsEnvironment.java:53)

or:

javax.servlet.ServletException: Servlet execution threw an exception
...

root cause

java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.

sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.access$000(X11GraphicsEnvironment.java:95)

Note that ODI Metadata Navigator is running on a Linux server.
