'Data conversion or data mapping error' when Executing Integration Interface with DB2/400 as Source in ODI (Doc ID 424205.1)

Symptoms

Case 1. Numeric columns of type Number(x,y) are set to 0

In Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Designer, when right click and select view data on an AS/400 v5 Source Datastore containing numeric columns of type Number(21,8), it appears that all values are set to 0 -- which is incorrect.

Case 2. Columns are shown as "Unsupported" or "Unsupported image format"

In Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Designer, when right click and select view data on an AS/400 v5 Source Datastore, all of the fields are shown as "Unsupported" or "Unsupported image format", except a couple of text columns.

Case 3. Receiving [SQL0802] Data conversion or data mapping error

The following message is displayed when executing an Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Integration Interface:
