Logins to users authenticated via the Oracle Internet Directory (OID) plsql external authentication plug-in against a remote Microsoft Active Directory (AD) server sometimes fail. The problem is usually intermittent. Other non-AD user binds continue to work.

Error shown is: ldap_bind: Can't contact LDAP server

With plug-in debug enabled the log table shows:

ID    MSG                 LOG_DATE  USESSION_ID
---- -------------------- --------- -------------
1243 simple_bind_res: 81  01-MAR-07 016EB03E0001

AD logs or network packet trace will also show the intermittent LDAP error 81.

OID logs with debug enabled will show:

11:59:42 * Exiting [gsldmp_getPluginContext] ...
11:59:42 * Exiting [gsldmn_bindPlugin_pa] ...
11:59:42 * INFO : gsleswrASndResult2 RESULT = 81 nentries=0
11:59:42 * Bind Op:, Fail

LDAP error 81 is a timeout.
