Goal

How can I set up my PDF Converter (PDFC) so the relative links in MS Word documents will be converted to absolute links by PDF Converter?

Absolute and relative links are two types of links that can be placed in MS Word documents. An absolute link contains a full path, whereas a relative link will not have the machine specific information in the URL.

Example absolute link:
http://machine/stellent/groups/public/documents/adacct/000123.pdf.

Example relative link:
000123.pdf

When creating links, absolute and relative links each have advantages and disadvantages. Absolute links are easy to copy and paste, however, relative links can eliminate issues if the Content Server is migrated to a new machine or if the IP address and DNS names change. Following the migration, you would resubmit all of the documents containing relative links and the PDF conversion would generate documents with links to the new Content Server name.
