Goal

How can I dynamically assign a prefix when using Auto Numbering? I want the Content ID assigned on check in to be different depending upon my metadata.

Disclaimer: This is not a core configuration. This is a custom feature extension of the software and is therefore only supported via the purchase of Consulting Services effort.. With all customizations, when you upgrade your software, the custom changes may be overwritten.

Each item in the Content Server is stored with a unique Content ID (dDocName). If your Content Server configuration is setup for auto numbering, the Content ID will be automatically assigned by the Content Server, for example HR_DOC_005000.

You can configure your server to assign a prefix using the Auto Number Prefix, for example an Auto Number Prefix value of HR_ will generate HR_005678, as a Content ID.

Additionally, the Auto Number Prefix can be used with Idoc scripting to dynamically assign a prefix based on metadata values. The examples below illustrate some ways Idoc scripting can be used.
