Workflow Info Page Shows Two E-mails Were Sent on Update Action (Doc ID 445990.1)

Symptoms

I have a workflow with a wfNotify call in the Update Event of a step. A document gets checked in to the Content Server and it goes into the workflow. When the Update Event occurs (for example, during the hourly update cycle or on updating the metadata of the content item), the e-mail is sent out to the user specified by the wfNotify call. However, the Workflow Info page shows that the e-mail was sent out twice (even though the user received only one e-mail). See the following screenshot:
