ORA-12505 Error When Attempting To Start the Content Server (Doc ID 451211.1)

Symptoms

 The Content Server fails to start.

If trying to start it on a Windows machine as a Windows Service, the following error is returned:

Could not start the IDC Content Service <Instance Name> on Local Computer.
Error 1064: An exception occurred in the service when handling the control request.



The following error is returned if you try to start the Content Server through the command line as follows:

On a Windows machine: <UCM>\bin\IdcServer.exe -debug -console

On a UNIX/LINUX machine: <UCM>/etc/idcserver_start

Failed to initialize the server. Unable to instantiate the system database. Unable to create database connection for the database 'SystemDatabase' with connection string 'jdbc:oracle:thin:@test.test.com:1521:SchemaName'. Please make sure that the connection string, user and password are correct. Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
