Enabling Outside In Technology (OIT) for Bidirectional (Arabic and Hebrew) Text (Doc ID 463445.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 14, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Outside In Technology - Version 8.3.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

The goal of this document is to document and troubleshoot Arabic and Hebrew text viewing problems with Outside In Technology Viewer (OIVT), ActiveX Viewer (OIX), Image Export (IX) and PDF Export (PX) applications.  The general topic of this note is bidirectional text support in OIT.  This document will also document some known caveats of bidirectional text support in OIT.

Scope

This document is intended for users of OIT Viewer (OIVT), ActiveX Viewer (OIX), Image Export (IX) or PDF Export (PX) that need to view/export documents containing bidirectional text, such as the Arabic or Hebrew languages.  Anyone reading this document should also refer to the documentation for their specific product:

Finally, please note that this does apply to older version of OIVT and OIX, but Image Export and PDF Export only added support for this option in version 8.3.5 or newer. Also, the older versions of the viewer only supported bidirectional text on Windows, whereas 8.3.5 and newer has eliminated the Windows platform dependency.
