"Authentication failed" Error Reported in Web Cache Event Log (Doc ID 468070.1)

Symptoms

Errors are reported in the Web Cache event log every time an object in Portal Page is created/modified.

ERROR:

[14/Nov/2007:19:07:19 +0000] [req-info] [ecid: 119942257849,0] [client: 192.168.1.252] [host: -] [url: /x-oracle-cache-invalidate]
[14/Nov/2007:19:07:19 +0000] [error 11336] [ecid: 119942257849,0] The request fails authorization check.
[14/Nov/2007:19:07:19 +0000] [error 11701] [ecid: 119942257849,0] Authentication failed. Invalid username or password.


Explicit clearing of cache in Page or Page Group properties displays the following in the browser window to the user:

General invalidation message processing exception: User-Defined Exception (WWC-40018)
General invalidation message processing exception: Error invalidating content: Invalid username and/or password passed to Web Cache (WWC-40018)

Changes

Problem may become apparent if configuration changes that affect invalidation process are made in the middle-tier.
