SQLPLUS does not failover service receiving FAN events

(Doc ID 473145.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 12, 2010

Applies to:

SQL*Plus - Version: 10.2.0.1 to 11.1.0.6 - Release: Oracle10g to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.
FAN, SQL*PLUS, RAC, FAILOVER

Symptoms

Upon a node or instance failure a session in the middle of a DML (update/insert/delete) should return an error "ORA-25408 can not safely replay call" so that the application could handle it properly and possibly failover to another node.

Using SQL*PLUS as client to test the above and connecting to a server side TAF aware session does not failover or return the above error as it should, if a hard node down, like reboot -f occurs. The SQL*PLUS session will hang and not retrieve any error.
