OVD 10g Server Hangs Periodically / OVD Log Shows: "ERROR - LDAP Accepting Connection From Server Socket: Too Many Open Files" (Doc ID 548974.1)

Symptoms

Periodically, OVD (Oracle Virtual Directory) server hangs and cannot connect via OVD Manager Console or LDAP clients.

OVD log shows errors:

[2008-01-02 09:29:58,484] ERROR - LDAP: Error accepting connection from server socket: Too many open files [Thread-462]
[2008-01-02 09:30:01,158] ERROR - LDAP: Error accepting connection from server socket: Too many open files [Thread-462]
[2008-01-02 09:30:37,825] ERROR - JoinViewAdapter: com.octetstring.vde.chain.ChainException: LDAP Error 1 : Did not get connection [WorkThread# 173]
[2008-01-02 09:31:11,156] ERROR - HeartBeatThread: [#TAM Sec Data] Remote server unreachable and marked inactive: myserver.mycompany.com:30389 [Heart Beat Thread]
[2008-01-02 09:31:11,156] ERROR - HeartBeatThread: [#RootDSE] Remote server unreachable and marked inactive: myserver.mycompany.com.:30389 [Heart Beat Thread]
