ContentTypeException When Running a Proxy Generated From a WSDL (Doc ID 549444.1)

Symptoms

In executing a web service client proxy that is generated from a WSDL, a SOAP Content Exception is returned, such as:

WARNING: Unable to connect to URL: http://myserver:port/webservice/webservice.asmx/funProcess due to java.security.PrivilegedActionException: oracle.j2ee.ws.saaj.ContentTypeException: Not a valid SOAP Content-Type: application/octet-stream
java.rmi.RemoteException: ; nested exception is:
HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: oracle.j2ee.ws.saaj.ContentTypeException: Not a valid SOAP Content-Type: application/octet-stream

or possibly:

WARNING: Unable to connect to URL: http://myserver:port/webservice/webservice.asmx/funProcess due to java.security.PrivilegedActionException: oracle.j2ee.ws.saaj.ContentTypeException: Not a valid SOAP Content-Type: text/html
java.rmi.RemoteException: ; nested exception is:
