HTTP Server Returns Error 'No Response from Application Web Server' When Uploading Larger Files (Doc ID 550704.1)

Symptoms

Unable to upload larger files in Oracle Portal. Small files can be uploaded fine but larger files fail to upload. The following errors are seen in the internet browser :

Oracle Portal 10.1.4.1

No Response from Application Web Server
There was no response from the application web server for the page you requested.
Please notify the site's webmaster and try your request again later.

Oracle Portal 10.1.4.2 :

Request Entity Too Large

The requested resource
/portal/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwv_add_wizard.edititem
does not allow request data with POST requests, or the amount of data provided in the request exceeds the capacity limit.

Oracle Portal 11.1.1.6 :

Request Entity Too Large

The server is refusing to process the request because the request data is larger than the server is willing or able to process, or the resource /portal/pls/portal/PROD_PORTAL.wwv_add_wizard.edititem does not allow the method POST specified.

This error message corresponds with the following entry in the Oracle HTTP Server log files :

code 413. This status will be passed back to the listener for error handling.

  1. Edit a page with an item region
  2. Add a reasonably large file
