Invoking a Web Service That Runs For Over 5 Minutes Gives Remotefault (Doc ID 551023.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 06, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle(R) BPEL Process Manager 10g - Version 10.1.2.0.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
This problem can occur on any platform.

Symptoms

BPEL invoke activity fails with timeout.

The invoked web service is on a 2nd server, and if the runtime is less than 5 minutes all is well, but a remoteFault occurs if the runtime exceeds 5 minutes. Meanwhile the web service itself seems to be completing normally.

-- Steps To Reproduce:

Create a simple web service that sleeps for a time specified by the input message, and a simple BPEL process SleepTestBPEL that calls it as a partner link. Execute 3 runs, once with a 15 second sleep in the web service to test that it works, then a run for 5.5 minutes (BPEL gets a remote fault as before), then a run for 4.5 minutes (BPEL succeeds).
