After completing a JDBC installation, it is suggested that you run the demo code to verify your installation and configuration. The demo code can be used to validate your JDBC driver and your connection to SQL*Net.

JDBC demos should be located in:

You can expand this by doing the following:

cd $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/demo
tar xvf demo.tar

The demonstrations are installed in 10g using the Database Companion CD or in 11g by using the Oracle Examples Installer in the examples directory of the Oracle instalaltion media .  The same JDBC demonstrations can also be downloaded from OTN from the JDBC download page ( There is a for each specific JDBC driver version)

This article explains how to setup and run a simple demo using both JDBC/thin and JDBC/OCI.  The focus of the demonstration is the sample that is provided in the samples/generic subdirectory of the expanded demo.tar .
